Offshore wind energy at SSE Renewables
SSE Renewables is building more offshore wind than any other company worldwide, and believe offshore wind will be the backbone of a net zero power system. Today, they have over 200 wind turbines in operation and are leading the construction of almost 5GW of new offshore wind generation. They have set a goal to double their current renewable generation capacity to 8GW by 2026 and more than triple capacity to 13GW by 2031.
This increase is expected to result in SSE Renewables generating at least 50TWh of renewable energy output by the end of the next decade, a fivefold growth from 2019 levels. With the largest offshore wind development pipeline in the UK and Ireland at over 6GW, as well as the largest wind farm under construction worldwide called Dogger Bank, SSE Renewables has strong opportunities for the future and are now turning their attention to the next generation of offshore wind and to new horizons.

International expansion is one of SSE Renewables’s main focus areas of growth, as globally, the demand for renewables is on the rise. There is strong renewables growth potential in international markets where SSE Renewables can extend their capabilities and diversify its pipeline.
SSE Renewables is exploring opportunities to enter new international markets in North America, Northern Europe, and Asia Pacific. One of these opportunities is Noordzeker, where SSE Renewables is working to develop and opere an offshore wind farm in the North Sea.
