At Noordzeker, our goal is large-scale wind energy generation in the North Sea. We set the bar high: we want to contribute to sustainable energy from and for the Netherlands in the coming decades.
The first offshore wind farm Noord Zeker is tendering for is IJmuiden Ver. This 200 km2 area is located about 60 kilometers off the coast of IJmuiden. Recognizing the potential ecological implications of a wind farm on local biodiversity, we are dedicated to minimizing these impacts through research and collaboration. We believe that wind energy and ecology can go hand-in-hand.
Ecology as a priority
Ecology is a priority in the collaborations Noordzeker has with education institutions, companies, social organizations and the government. Throughout the construction and operation of the wind farm, preserving biodiversity is a key focus for us. For instance, we are incorporating findings from studies on the effects of wind turbines on fish populations and bird migration into our planning phase. Additionally, we are exploring the potential of combining wind energy with marine flora to create a new habitat that fosters marine biodiversity.
Together with researchers
We are committed to biodiversity for the long-term, making ecology a central theme before, during, and after the construction of a wind farm. From the moment the wind turbines are in motion, we work with researchers to monitor their ecological impact in the North Sea. Our objective is to ensure that sustainable energy generation works in harmony with nature.
Our ultimate goal is to build ecologically-conscious wind turbines to secure a stable energy supply while reducing reliance on foreign energy sources. Additionally, our early involvement in wind turbine projects ensures long-term and dependable returns for ABP pension participants. The measures that Noordzeker are taking, including those for ecology, are documented in our registration.
About the tender
Noordzeker is actively committed to the ecology of the North Sea. By synergizing wind energy and ecology, we unlock the potential for groundbreaking innovations. In doing so, we are dedicated to creating a sustainable future for all. These goals are also communicated to the government as we prepare for the registration of the IJmuiden Ver tender in March 2024. The winning tender will be announced in the latter half of 2024 and may proceed with the construction of the wind farm.
About Noordzeker
Noordzeker is a joint initiative of the pension fund ABP, pension investor APG, and wind farm developer SSE Renewables. Our goal is to secure wind energy in the North Sea for the Netherlands.
The Dutch government is issuing various new tenders for wind farms under the Wind Op Zee (Wind @ Sea) program. The Noordzeker partnership will be participating in these tenders, starting with IJmuiden Ver (IJVER).
We believe that sustainable energy generation is a collective effort - for all of us, by all of us. By investing in wind energy in the North Sea now, we are ensuring sustainable energy for the Netherlands of tomorrow.
