About IJmuiden Ver Alpha

Sustainable energy

Wind and water have been ‘Dutch DNA’ for centuries. Wind and water are massive opportunities for the future energy transition of the Netherlands. Our North Sea plays a unique role in this. In the coming years, the Dutch government will focus on developing and constructing large-scale wind farms off our coast.

Energy as collective property

We believe in the power of involvement and cooperation. That is why ABP and its executor APG have been working on investments in recent years that yield returns for our participants' pensions and contribute to the collective interest. ABP previously made it possible for 1.2 million Dutch households and companies in villages and small residential areas to connect to fibre optics by investing in establishing Glaspoort in collaboration with KPN. ABP also invests in wind farms in the Netherlands, Germany, France and Sweden, among others.

ABP and pension provider APG are developing the IJmuiden Ver Alpha wind farm in collaboration with SSE Renewables. The Alpha plot in IJmuiden Ver contributes to the restoration and strengthening of the North Sea nature. The plans include turbine and wind farm designs that contribute to the protection of birds and measures that will significantly reduce the disturbance of marine mammals during the construction and operational period. In addition, there will be a living laboratory to demonstrate how wind farms can help to combat climate change.
